Sony seems to have found the pulse of its customers and is rolling out useful services for its Xperia line of phones. The latest service to be announced by Sony Corporation is 'my Xperia', a remote security App for your Xperia phones manufactured in 2012 and later. The App which was pilot beta tested in the Nordic regions by Sony Corporation, is being released for all the regions after a after a successful beta period of 'testing/listening /tweaking', in Sony's words.
To use the service, head over to myxperia.sonymobile.com and sign in with your Google/Gmail id. As soon as the service is available in your country or region, the App will be available for you. You have to head over to the settings and tweak it to enable remote access. The App is at present being sent to the European users via an Update Center notification and it is available Over the Air (OTA).
As far as the App goes the 'my Xperia' let you do following things directly from myxperia.sonymobile.com
1. Sound an alert to get someone’s attention –it’ll also override silent mode and wake the display
2. Map location via myxperia.sonymobile.com
3. Lock the phone to keep info private, and ping a message with contact details or…
4. Erase both internal and external SD card info / data if required
How many of you are happy to see Sony launch a service like this for their phones and tablets? Now we just need other manufacturers and even Google launch a ‘my Xperia’ type of service for all devices out there. It’s definitely something that’s needed in the Android world. And I’m interested to see how Google would do it.
Considering the fact that the Xperia smart phones and tablets (or phablets, call it whatever you like) are pretty costly, this kind of service is pretty much needed and necessary to users. Since the my Xperia is new launched, we may see lot of services being added to it once Sony rolls it out for whole world and gets the hang of it.
Wonder whether Google, Apple and Samsung may come out with a similar service to woo buyers!
